I don't have a perfect body, what do the judges’ look for in swimsuit?
The purpose of the swimsuit competition is to ensure physical fitness.  It is important that a contestant be phsically fit to meet the physical demands placed on Miss America.  The judges also use this phase of the competition to look at how the contestant feels about herself and how she carries herself.  Judges are looking for much more than body shape - stage-presence, confidence, poise, and the overall impression of the contestant.

What kind of swimsuit should I wear?
That's really up to you and how comfortable you feel about yourself and also your body type.  You can wear a one piece or two piece swimsuit (conservative style, no thongs).  The style and color of the swimsuit are also your choice and should reflect your personality.

What kind of shoes should I wear in the swimsuit competition?
I would suggest either Taupe or clear heels.  If you do not have taupe or clear heels (and don't want to buy them) then you should wear shoes that match the color of the swimsuit.  A caution on shoes...on-stage is much different than in person.  A thick or clunky shoe can make your legs look heavier than they really are, while a thin heel can make your legs look long and thin.

Where can I purchase taupe or clear heels?
You can do a search on the web to find shoe stores that sell clear or taupe shoes, www.shoes.com is an excellent source.

Where do I find an Evening Gown?
There are a number of choices.  First of all, look in your closet; most prom dresses are appropriate for the evening gown competition.  If you would like to purchase a gown you can go to the Mall (Dillard’s has nice gowns), just grab the phone book.

What style evening gown is appropriate?
At the local level there are no specific requirements regarding the gown other than, it should be full length, fit you well and compliment your own coloring and physical features.  The style, design, and color are up to you.  It can be elaborate, or very simple.  Your gown should represent YOUR own personality and taste.  Teens should probably be a little more conservative in their gown selection than the Miss contestants.

What do judges look for in the Evening Gown Competition?
Judges look for personality, sense of style, stage presence, walk, and posture.  You are not judged on how much you spend on the dress, you are judged on how it makes you feel and how you carry yourself.
